Under-15s finish on a high

Victoria passed the SA total of 101 with only two wickets in hand, notching their fifth consecutive victory.

Samantha Ryan was at it again with the new ball picking up three wickets in her first over to leave SA 3-4 off just two overs.

An excellent piece of glove work from wicketkeeper Zoe Griffiths gave Ryan her fourth wicket and had SA looking very shaky at 4-19 after six overs.

Victoria introduced spinner Erika Quinn into the attack early, and she struck in her first over to have SA 5-24 after eight overs.

In just the next over, the SA pair decided to take on Jessica Karamoshou’s arm but this didn’t work out well for them as she threw the stumps down and had SA 6-27 off nine overs.

Another wicket fell of the bowling of Tahlia Simpson just one over later to have SA 7-33.

SA had an eighth-wicket partnership of 56 before a run out gave Victoria a crucial breakthrough.

Victoria bowled SA out for 101 with an outstanding fielding display by the whole team and a stand out bowling performance from Ryan with four wickets.

Victoria’s batting innings didn’t get off to a great start losing Zoe Griffiths and Annabel Sutherland in just the third over with the score 2-16.

Wickets of Sophie Van de Heuvel, Nicole Faltum and skipper Teagen Brett fell in quick succession to leave the side 5-38 desperately needing a partnership.

A partnership was needed and Samantha Ryan and Rosie Wynd obliged taking the girls to within seven runs to win before Ryan was dismissed.

This left the girls needing seven runs to win with just two wickets in hand.

Wynd got the girls over the line, with a gritty 31 not out and secured third place for the team.

Congratulations must also go to Erika Quinn who was selected in the team of the National Championships for her performances throughout the carnival.

Wicketkeeper Zoe Griffiths also won the award for the most dismissals by a fielder in the National Championships.

Van de Heuvel and Quinn were also invited to attend the Australian Talent Camp on the back of performance through the championships.
