Staged from January 16 to 22, 2013, the team will be looking to go one better than the runners-up placing they finished earlier this year.
Seven members of last year’s team return with Sarah Chancellor-Goddard, Julia Crockett-Grills, Kate Dempsey, Nicola Hancock, Alana King, Teagan Parker and Sarah Tatchell to play a huge role in the fortunes of the side.
Tatchell (14 wickets) and Crockett-Grills (12 wickets) will lead the attack after being named in the team of the tournament earlier this year, while Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit rookie Kate Dempsey will be looking to repeat her performance from that series in which she was the state’s leading run-scorer.
Victorian coach Liam Castellas said he was looking for Dempsey and fellow Victorian rookie Alana King to lead the side.
“They have thrived in the VicSpirit set-up,” Castellas said.
“They are both senior players now and I’ll be looking to them to impart the professionalism from the VicSpirit program to the rest of the girls in the team.”
The squad will continue to hone their skills with more specific training ahead of the January tournament.
“We will have a few more training sessions, focussing on turf wicket practice,” Castellas said.
“We will also have a camp before the tournament so the girls can get to know each other.”
