Under-19s: Spinners set up easy win

After winning the toss and batting first, NT got off to a quick start, rushing to 0-37 off the first six overs.

A persistent Guy Walker (2-31) was the first to strike, immediately turning the momentum in the direction of Victoria.

Wickets began to tumble consistently and when Grimwade dismissed opener Jacob Dickman (29), the score was 4-66.

Dickman proved to be the only form of resistance however, as Victoria’s spinners capitalised on NT’s middle-order collapse.

Grimwade finished with 3-15 (10) and Seneviratne 3-24 (8) as NT lost their last nine wicket for 49 runs, to be all out for 100.

Captain Ejaaz Alavi picked up the final wicket of the innings with just his second delivery of the match, finishing with 1-1 (0.2).

Jonty Rushton also took a wicket on his way to the super-economical figures of 1-7 off four overs.

Jacob Serry and Zach Allen opened the batting for Victoria and got through the new ball effectively.

Serry was dismissed for 10, bringing Tanner Stanton (11) to the crease.

A late inclusion to the squad, Stanton did his job supporting Allen as the pair put on 44 for the second wicket.

This was enough to ensure the Victorians would win the match.

Sam Harper took no time to settle in, steering the team home with a quick-fire 17 not out off 12 balls.

Allen was the star of the innings, but will be disappointed to miss out on a half century – he was caught for 49 (66) when the side needed just 16 runs to win.

Victoria passed NT’s score after just 20.5 overs and with seven wickets in hand (3-103).

The Vics will look to continue on their winning ways as they play ACT/NSW Country in another one-dayer today.
