Victoria announces Under-15 squad

Staged in Sydney from November 28 to December 4, five players will return from last year’s squad with Makinley Blows, Hope Irvine, Sophie Molineux, Claire Nolte and Rhiann O’Donnell earning selection once again.

Molinuex shapes as a key player after she was chosen in last year’s team of the tournament and provided one of the best innings at the National Championships when she struck an unbeaten 98 from just 70 balls against Western Australia.

“She will be critical with bat and ball,” Victorian coach Duncan Harrison said.

Hayleigh Brennan, Georgia Wareham and Madeleine Wright have been selected after their performances in the Victorian Under-12 side which played in January this year.

The side was chosen after the recent challenge match series held over three days at Melton and winter training sessions with the Cricket Victoria Academy.

“That’s the something we learnt from last year, not having enough match practice before the Championships,” Harrison said.

“We played two Twenty20s and a forty over match and it was just really good to see the girls out in the field, seeing who read the play well and of course, who batted and bowled well.

Last year’s side finished fifth after several rain affected matches cruelled their chances.

“We are hoping for better results and better weather this year,” Harrison said.
