Victorian 12-and-under squads announced

With the assistance of Cricket Victoria, squads were selected after a month of trialing, culminating at the MCG over the recent school holiday period.

Entering the tournament as defending champions, Victoria’s 12-and-under boys team will look to emulate last year’s results, going through the competition undefeated.

The team boasts a host of fresh faces with the Inner East Metro’s Jake Fraser-McGurk the only returning player.

“We have a reasonable mix of players,” Victorian boys coach Dave Gallacher said.

“Due to timing and the weather, it’s going to be a challenging task to prepare for the tournament.”

In the girls’ division, Victoria will be looking to improve on its third place finish from the 2013 Championships.

Victorian Imparja Cup representative Merinda Hale will bring experience to the team along with Becky Petty as returning members from last year’s invitational side.

“We are hoping that the girls will gain some more experience after the Championships, improving their general skills in batting, bowling and fielding,” Victorian girls coach John Mitchell said.

“For many, this is their first step to any representative team.”

Victoria will also have representation in the invitational team with two girls being selected to combine with cricketers from the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia.

The School Sport Australia Cricket Championships will take place from June 15 to 23, 2014.
