New Round of Canteen Grants Open for Cricket Clubs

The Canteen Grants program is now into its fifth year and has already helped 57 cricket clubs to improve their facilities and electrical safety.

More than $220,000 has been distributed to local clubs across the first four years of the program, which has helped to fund a range of necessary upgrades for clubs, including electrical upgrades, new refrigerators and oven replacements.

Clubs can now apply for grants for the 2022-23 season and can use the funds for the replacement of electrical appliances, electrical wiring and power boards, switchboards or related infrastructure to safely provide quality services.

Applications are open to any club in the CitiPower, Powercor or United Energy distribution areas – which includes all parts of western Victoria, the Melbourne CBD and inner suburbs, as well as much of Melbourne’s east, south east and the Mornington Peninsula.

CitiPower General Manager Corporate Affairs, Jo Pafumi, said the grants issued to date have enabled 22 club canteens to be completely rewired and resulted in 25 new fridges, 12 ovens and a huge number of bain maries, pie warmers and dishwashers being installed.

“Every club has a different story about what they need to improve their canteen,” Jo said.

“But at the heart of them all is the drive to offer players, volunteers and supporters the hospitality of great local clubs. We hope the next round of applications can help even more clubs.”

CitiPower and Cricket Victoria received 97 applications for canteen grants last season, with 13 being successful in receiving funding.

Cricket Victoria CEO, Nick Cummins, encouraged eligible clubs needing to upgrade their facilities to apply for the grants.

“Our successful Canteen Grants program is now into its fifth year and has helped many Victorian cricket clubs, thanks to the generous support of our major partner, CitiPower. This program is a great opportunity for clubs to review their needs and apply to upgrade or enhance their facilities. As we come out of what has been a challenging couple of seasons for community clubs, we hope these grants will assist hard-working club volunteers and encourage people to spend more time supporting their local club and community.”

The application period is open from now until November 25.
