VCCL team of the year

The Murray Valley Cricket Association’s Luke Carter was rewarded for his standout year after being selected in the Victorian Country Cricket League’s team of the year.

Announced at the VCCL’s annual meeting, each member of the 2012-13 team was recognised with a plaque.

In its second year, the process was adopted by the VCCL as a way of promoting country cricket.

The team of the year is formed by the best performers in country cricket and is selected on a statistical basis.

“The VCCL team of the year is decided on the basis of total runs and wickets, the best averages and the most wicket-keeping dismissals,” VCCL selector Kelvin White said.

For the Murray Valley Cricket Association, the selection was a milestone with Carter being its first player to be selected.

“We believe we have some good talent in our association and Luke is one of the premier ones,” MVCA Treasurer Colin Smith said.

“He is a very good batsman, bowler and fielder and plays within the spirit of the game.”

As a member of the Strathmerton Cricket Club, Carter amassed 958 runs, as well as claiming 21 wickets for the season.

The number three batsman enjoyed a standout season with his highest score being 205.

At season’s end, the accolades came flowing for Carter, who was also awarded with his fourth Guthrie Medal – the award for the season’s best player in the association.

In attendance at the annual meeting, Carter noted that he was honoured to be recognised by the VCCL.

“It was just great. I was really happy to be in the team.”

The 2012-13 VCCL team of the year is:
