Bowled over by new facility

With four senior teams, seven junior teams and a MILO in2CRICKET program, the club had outgrown its old practice nets and was in need of an upgrade.

“We saw the redevelopment as a critical part of our vision in ensuring that Williamstown CYMS Cricket Club remained one of the leading cricket clubs in the local area,” President Paul Burn said.

The club unveiled its new facility with Cricket Victoria Chief Executive Officer Tony Dodemaide bowling the first ball in the brand new nets.

“I would like to commend the work of Paul and everyone at CYMS,” Dodemaide said.

“This facility is great for the community and great for our sport.”

Also in attendance was the Member for Williamstown District, Wade Noonan, MP, Hobson Bay Mayor Angela Altair and fellow Councilor Paul Morgan.

“This facility will see juniors become senior cricketers and will be here for a generation,” Mr Noonan said at the event.

“Good facilities draw people to come and play.”

The project cost $130,000, with Cricket Victoria’s Strategic Grants Fund contributing $10,000.

Williamstown CYMS will now look to continue on building its club membership with junior registration day being held at Fearon Reserve on Saturday, August 31 2013 from 10am.
