The academy will engage students in a cricket tournament modelled against the Australian Big Bash League. Local and international students across all campuses – Broadmeadows, Docklands, Moonee Ponds, Richmond and Essendon – are welcome to participate.
Grouped into teams, the players will be supported by training with a Cricket Australia accredited coach, which includes a training session at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.
“We’re pleased to join hands with Cricket Victoria to launch this exciting initiative. Enhancing our students’ overall experience and wellbeing is big priority for Kangan Institute. This innovative program will give our learners an unprecedented opportunity to learn from a world-class coach as they partake in one of Australia’s most popular sports,” said Kangan Institute’s CEO Trevor Schwenke.
Cricket Victoria’s General Manager of Game and Market Development Rohan O’Neill is looking forward to the Academy assisting in the transition of new migrants to Victoria through the game of cricket.
“We believe that cricket is game for everyone. This Academy will provide students with the opportunity to develop batting, bowling and fielding skills, as well as exposure to the local community facilities, which includes iconic tourist destinations such as the Melbourne Cricket Ground,” O’Neill said.
The training and tournament will take place in March and April, with player recruitment to commence this month.
