Cricket Victoria partner with Greater Shepparton City (OLD)

Similar to Cricket Victoria’s already successful Open Wickets Program in the City of Casey, grants will be distributed across the community to those who don’t have the usual access and means to participate in local club cricket.

The grants are aimed to cover club registration or membership fees, uniforms and equipment for children and young people between the ages of five and 18, and in some instances, over the age of 18.

Cricket Victoria’s General Manager for Game and Market Development Rohan O’Neill said this is another example of how sport can make an impact in Victorian communities.

“This is a wonderful program that enables people to participate in cricket through the removal of cost as a barrier. It’s the sort of program that can bring communities closer together,” O’Neill said.

Cricket Victoria’s commitment in Greater Shepparton will be enjoyed through the Council’s already established Sporting Chance Scholarships program.

Greater Shepparton City Council is one of the fastest growing areas for immigration, where 10 percent of people come from countries where English was not their first language.

Council’s Director of Community Kaye Thomson welcomed Cricket Victoria’s support of the Sporting Chance program.

“Cricket Victoria’s contribution will help our program’s reach in the community. This support will provide a terrific opportunity for newcomers to get involved in cricket and be connected within their local communities,” Ms Thomson said.

The initiative is supported by the Victorian State Government and Cricket Australia.
