Cricket Victoria supports Elder Abuse Prevention

Organised by the Eastern Community Legal Centre, the community service event aimed to bring public attention to the issue of elder abuse – which is unfortunately wide spread in our community.

Elder Abuse Awareness Day is held on 15 June ever year with the aim of organisations all over the world to stop the abuse, neglect and mistreatment of the elderly.

DEC Bushranger Clint McKay took part in the match which also included the likes of former Richmond football great Tommy Hafey and former Australian cricketer Max Walker.

“Everything went well and it was a great cause to be part of,” said McKay.

Sporting purple t-shirts with the slogan “Elder Abuse – a No Ball,” participants took it in turn to have a go with both the bat and ball.

Public figures including ABC radio personality Lindy Burn and Walker himself, also helped raise the profile of the event, promoting the cause on their respective radio programs throughout the week.

Kaz MacKay from the Eastern Community Legal Centre said, “The level of support that we have received is tremendous.”

The indoor cricket match was run for the first time this year and based on its success organisers are hoping to make it an annual event.
