NICL 2018

NICL 2018 – Week 3 wrap

Essendon Maribyrnong Park recorded their first win of the Women’s NICL in Victoria with a comfortable 73-49 victory over the Northcote Knights.

Melbourne Stars WBBL player Chloe Rafferty was a standout for the Bombers (23 runs, 1 wickets) leading the run-scoring across both teams. Cranbourne Kings also started title defence off with a win following a 100-72 victory over Hoppers Crossing in their first-round match.

In the Women’s East zone, Monash Tigers started their season well with a win over Springvale Seahawks 88-65, while Georgina Heenan led Cranbourne to a 92-50 victory over Northcote Pirates, taking 5 wickets and scoring 14 runs.

In the West Men’s competition, new entrants Albury Warriors and Geelong Jets recorded their first wins. Albury were narrow winners over Hoppers Crossing 82-79 with a third pair batting partnership of 36 between Dave Holliday and Jake Bridgman leading the way.

Geelong Jets were also impressive in their win over the Northcote Pirates. Michael Kennedy (4 wickets) and Phil Toyne (27 runs) stood up for the Jets as they easily defended their total of 102 batting first, restricting the Pirates to 70.

Northcote Knights continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 20-run victory over Melton Falcons, while the North Geelong Supercats recorded back-to-back wins in their double-header round at Hoppers Crossing. They defeated both the home side 101-73 and the Warriors in the second match 99-66 to sit in second place on the ladder.

In the East Men’s competition, Croydon Raiders were pushed all the way against Cranbourne Kings eventually winning 95-80, largely thanks to a third pair partnership of 31 between Justin Perkins and Geoff Latham batting first. Bobo’s Diner Sharks also recorded their first win of the season, easily accounting for Monash Tigers.
