Premier cricketers to return home

For the first of two sessions this summer, Premier Cricket representatives will return to their clubs of origin to join and help run training sessions at their former homes.

The first training session will take place on Tuesday, November 13, with a second planned for 2013.

During ‘Back to Home Week’, Premier Cricket clubs have been requested to send their entire playing lists back to their clubs of origin or to arrange an evening with community clubs within their local area.

Premier Cricket Strategy and Development Manager Mike Ronchi said the initiative is sure to be beneficial for all involved.

“We’ve made a conscious decision to try and foster closer alignment between Premier Cricket clubs and the broader cricketing community,” Mr Ronchi said.

“There’s an enormous upside for Premier cricketers to return to their home clubs to pass on their knowledge and experience, and at the same time, community clubs can demonstrate the pathway to success via some of their best exports.

“The majority of Premier cricketers have come through the club system and we feel this is a great way for players to be able to give a little back.”

While locality will be an issue for some players, particularly those who hail from parts of regional Victoria, the expectation is for those players to accompany fellow teammates to a local club.
