Under-15s remain unbeaten

It was once again a strong bowling performance from Victoria as they dismissed SA for 128 in 36 overs.

Captain, Annabel Sutherland, continued to lead from the front as she picked up 3-16, bringing her tournament tally to six.

Sutherland took the first wicket as she had SA’s wicketkeeper, Rachel Church, bowled for nine with the score on 21.

The skipper struck again after SA had added just two runs as she dismissed the other opener, Katie Rowe, for four.

A 28-run stand for the third wicket then ensued before Rosie Wynd had Madison Newman caught by Emma Sands for seven.

Georgia Iannella was the next wicket to fall as she was run out by Erika Quinn for a single with the score on 57.

Wynd picked up her second wicket as she had Sophie Roberts trapped lbw for one with South Australia on 64.

SA then put on a 19-run stand between captain, Emma de Broughe, and Tarlee Meaney before Bella Gietzmann had Meaney run out for six.

Sutherland then took her third wicket, as SA were faltering on 83-7, dismissing her opposite number – de Broughe – for a well-made 35.

The eighth-wicket partnership of 33 was SA’s most successful of the match and was finally broken as Wynd took her third wicket of the match as she bowled Caitlin Edmunds for nine.

The final two wickets came courtesy of run-outs, the first to Tenushi Perara who dismissed Scout Carmichael for 23 and then wicketkeeper Madeline Stirling who saw Sarah Ferris depart for 10 with South Australia finishing on 128 all out.

Victoria lost an early wicket in their chase as Sutherland departed for a single as she was caught behind off Newman with the score on eight.

Sophie Van De Heuvel and Teagan Brett then shared an impressive match-winning partnership of 81.

Play continued till Victoria lost their third wicket and the score was 128 after 21 overs.

Van De Heuvel made 40, a good innings which included five fours and a six.

It was Victoria’s number three, Brett, who finished with an unbeaten 58 off 57 deliveries, striking eight fours who helped seal the victory in an impressive fashion.

Victoria now move from the 40-over format to Twenty20 today as they play Western Australia and then Tasmania.
