Vics perform well in Under-16 national series

Victoria was well represented in the Australian side, with Nathan Murphy, Will Sutherland, Zac Evans, Fraser Ellis and Shubham Bhargave donning the green and gold.

Pakistan won the first two games; however this didn’t deter Australia who won two games of their own with the Victorians performing strongly throughout the series.

Australia hit back in the third match, bowling Pakistan out for 142 and then completing a successful chase with 17 overs to spare, losing only one wicket in the process.

The second half of the series was played in a T20 format, with Australia seeing some mixed results in the shortest form of the game.

Pakistan won the fourth game of the series after amassing 156 from 20 overs, which Australia couldn’t overhaul falling 19 runs short of victory.

The visitors also won the second T20 in convincing fashion after winning their fourth toss of the series.

Australia was able to end the series on a high however, claiming a seven-wicket win in the final T20.

Zak Evans was Australia’s best bowler, taking 14 wickets in six games, which included 4-19 from nine overs in the third game of the series which Australia went on to win.

The third game also produced Nathan Murphy’s best performance of 34*, where he combined with fellow opener Thomas Snowden for a 132-run partnership which guided Australia home in a successful chase.

Will Sutherland enjoyed a fruitful tournament with both bat and ball, taking four wickets and hitting 75 runs with a high score of 31 in the second game of the series.

Bhargave only appeared at the batting crease twice during the series, but certainly made the most of it hitting 98 runs with a top score of 80* which was vital in Australia winning the final game of the series.

Fraser Ellis played the first game against the Pakistani’s, collecting 2-33 from seven overs at the bowling crease.
