Rogers brought up his second Test half-century from just 49 balls including 10 boundaries as he bludgeoned the English attack after skipper Michael Clarke had won the toss and elected to bat.
The left-hander was eventually trapped in front by Graeme Swann 16 runs shy of his maiden Test century, with Clarke (125 not out) and Steve Smith (70 not out) combining for an unbeaten 174-run fourth-wicket partnership.
