The Victorian community will come together on Sunday (30/3) for the Luke Batty T20 Celebrity Game.
The match, that gets underway at 1pm, will feature Australian Test cricketers Matthew Wade and Bryce McGain and Commonwealth Bank Bushrangers duo Peter Handscomb and Scott Boland.
Essendon backmen Michael Hurley and Michael Hibberd, will also be in attendance, alongside St Kilda youngster Arryn Siposs, Channel 10 stars Pete Helliar and Anthony “Lehmo” Lehmann and Nine Network personalities Gary Sweet, Rhys Muldoon and Brett Macleod, amongst others.
Regional Cricket Manager Jason Mathers said that the match has generated support from all areas of the Tyabb community.
“The community has been amazing, with offers of assistance coming from far and wide,” Mathers said.
“The community spirit is alive and well.”
Fundraising for the match has been kick-started by Cricket Victoria’s major sponsor Commonwealth Bank who has donated $10,000 towards the construction of new nets at the Tyabb Reserve.
“The main reason for this game is to get the community back to the Tyabb Reserve,” Mathers said.
“Any money raised will be used to rebuild the cricket nets (which have been demolished and removed) and also upgrade the facilities for all user groups as well as a memorial for Luke.”
There will be live entertainment after the match at 5pm from “Thunder Road”, Australia’s best Bruce Springsteen cover band with autographs also available with the players.
Entry is $5 with free admission for children under 16.
There will be food and drink available with activities for kids throughout the day.
The match will be played at Tyabb Reserve 1, Frankston Flinders Road, Tyabb on Sunday, March 30.
