Victoria name squads for U17 Male National Championships

The tournament will take place in Ballarat, Victoria next year in January with support from the Ballarat Cricket Association and the City of Ballarat.

Victoria Metro will be coached by Prahran CC Head Coach Julien Wiener with Melbourne University CC Head Coach Daniel Hutton as an assistant coach.

Cricket Victoria Talent Development Specialist Shane Koop will coach Victoria Country alongside Richmond CC Head Coach Shannon Young as an assistant coach.

All four coaches have been working with players within Cricket Victoria’s Emerging Under 17 program since July and have experience within Premier Cricket circles.

Geelong CC batter Oliver Peake will captain Victoria Country after representing Victoria Country at both the Under 17 and Under 19 tournaments last year, while also coming off his maiden 1st XI century last week.

Victoria Metro will be captained by Prahran CC’s Alex Turner, who made his 1st XI debut for the club this season.

Cricket Victoria’s Talent Development Manager – Male, Tom Evans, said it was a great opportunity for both sides to test their abilities against the best under 17 players in the country.

“All players that took part in the Emerging Under 17 Program have put in a great amount of hard work to continually improve themselves as cricketers and people over the last 4 months,” he said.

“We are looking forward to their continued development across Premier Cricket and working with our Under 17 coaches to hit the ground running and perform well at the National Championships in Ballarat.”
