Growing the force

Cricket Victoria’s Coach Force program will see two new features added for the 2013-14 cricket season.

In its second year, the program will now be available to all secondary schools in Victoria as well as incorporating a strength and conditioning training option.

Wanting to provide an alternative for schools without a regular coach, the program aims to decrease the workload of volunteers and add value to the current school program.

“School coaches are often either juggling heavy workloads or are volunteers looking for that extra level of professional information,” Cricket Victoria Education and Training Coordinator Neil Gray said.

“We hope that we can relieve some of the pressure from the coaches and also allow them to provide a better program for their kids.”

In addition, the strength and conditioning option has been implemented to further educate clubs about training and its physical demands.

“At Cricket Victoria we are blessed to have a strong strength and conditioning team that look after our athletes,” Gray said. “By making them available to clubs and schools, the best practices can be heard.”

As a user-pays program, Coach Force is designed to assist clubs and schools in player development at all levels tailoring sessions for batting, bowling, wicket-keeping and fielding.
