Learning from the best

The week-long course saw 33 selected coaches with various experiences gather to learn from some of the biggest names in Victorian cricket including Greg Shipperd, Simon Helmot, Rodney Hogg and Bryce McGain.

With both practical and theoretical sessions, topics covered the three fundamentals of cricket, batting, bowling and fielding as well as general coaching principles such as leadership and biomechanics.

Among the selected coaches was Ringwood Cricket Club’s Ella Austin.

Having started coaching at age 12, Austin applied for the course to further her coaching development.

Throughout the week, Austin noted that the information that she had gained from the course had been invaluable and beneficial in developing her coaching techniques.

“Everything that was presented in the course was extremely useful, important and relevant,” Austin said.

“Overall it gave me the opportunity to explore and develop different and new ways to facilitate the development of cricketers/partcipants of all ages and experience levels.

“I now have the necessary skills to help my club and other cricketers to continue to develop and improve into the future.”
