Bede celebrates a hat-trick

Bede rescued the Scorpions outfit via the memorable feat as the Eagles threatened the 140-run target thanks to a well-constructed 51 from Brodie Eccles.

Requiring 47 from the final 10 overs, the Eagles ultimately fell eight runs short during a thrilling chase.

The outcome was reversed in the under-16 fixture, however, as the Eagles defeated the Scorpions by 20-runs.

In other under-16 matches, Inner East Emus made a winning start at Princes Park, defeating Northern Falcons in a high scoring affair.

Liam Smith (60) and Josh Ball (55) got the Emus off to a flyer, racing to 0-120, before both batsmen departed at the 30-over mark.

The Emus stuttered ever so slightly before recovering to set the Falcons 240 for victory.

Regular wickets to the Emus ensured they would defend their total, dismissing the Falcons for 210 with Jacob Ireland managing 67, while Campbell Lane took 3-13 in a devastating four-over spell.

Down the road at Melbourne University, Western Spirit won a close match against a resilient North West Wizards outfit, led by Carlton all-rounder Dan Syson.

Syson, who managed 29 in the Wizards’ total of 187, also grabbed 3-43 during a terrific performance, but it wasn’t enough to save victory as they were passed late in the piece courtesy of Sean Clarke (43) and Jake Charge (29).

Full scale competition resumes today, with all 16 regions competing in the Twenty20 format.
