Breakers claim Dowling

After restricting the Wizards to 7-181, a half-century from under-17 Victorian representative Will Pucovski saw the Breakers reach the target to claim the prized Dowling Shield.

After losing the toss and being sent into bat, the Wizards started slowly, standing at 2-45 at the halfway point.

Tom Stevenson (37*) and Zachary Margariti (27*) put on a late order surge, combining for a 69-run partnership and leading the Wizards to a total of 7-181.

The Breakers shared the wickets with Matthew Parker (2-23) and William Taylor (2-29) scalping two-wicket hauls.

In reply, the Breakers started well with Pucovski (50) and Chris Diggle (42) combining for an 81-run partnership.

In a turn of events, the Wizards put the pressure back on the Breakers, scalping 3-11 in quick time.

However, handy contributions from Dane Heverin (34) and Max Millwood (18*) saw the Breakers reach the set total in the 49th over.

Leading the bowling attack for the Wizards was Matthew Sipala with 3-18 from six overs and Thomas Winchester with 2-25 from 10 overs.

The Breakers’ Pucovski was awarded with the Player of the Final while Diggle tied with the Wizards’ Kevin Spaull for the Player of the Series.

Diggle piled on 198 runs at 49.5 for the series while Spaull notched 199 runs at 66.33.
