Fotia rips through Kiwis

The Ringwood speedster ripped through the Kiwi top order claiming the scalp of both openers inside the first six overs after Australia had sent the home side into bat.

He returned in a later spell to dismiss top-scorer Ken McClure and tailender Harley Jenkins to finish with 4-44 from 10 overs.

Fotia pushed for selection in the strong Ringwood 1st XI bowling line-up this season, claiming 22 wickets, at an average of 20.55, in 16 matches in the 2nd XI.

Player of the Under-17 National Championships Guy Walker also impressed with 2-36 from 7.2 overs as New Zealand was dismissed for 182 in the 47th over.

After stroking a century in the first match of the tour, Victorian Matt Short opened the batting again but failed to convert a promising start and was knocked over for 13 (29) in the eighth over.

New South Welshmen Damien Mortimer (87*) and 16-year-old Jake Doran (53*) combined for a 116-run partnership that saw Australian cruise to a seven-wicket victory with 12.5 overs remaining.

Australia will look to claim the one-day series when they meet in the second match tomorrow with a third game to follow on Monday.
