Harper leads Victorian win

Chasing 152, an unbeaten 100-run partnership between Sam Harper (70*) and Blake Thomson (44*) saw the Victorians surpass the total in the 27th over.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, South Australia started well, with Isaac Boylan (55) and Corey Sinclair (22) piling on the runs.

However, Victoria’s bowling attack proved too strong, claiming 4-18 to dismiss South Australia for 151 in the 35th over.

Bottom-age player Sam Grimwade was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4-30 from eight overs, with Gehan Seneviratne (2-7) snared the prize wicket of Boylan.

“Sam bowled very well and we performed well in the field, taking some outstanding catches,” Victorian coach Graeme Rummans said.

Wes Agar (2-27), Kade Burns (1-17) and Jackson Mockett (1-21) also provided handy contributions.

In reply, Victoria started their innings in a similar fashion to South Australia, with Jacob Serry (4) and Will Pucovski (4) dismissed early to slump to 2-20.

Vice-captain Liam Banthorpe (20) lifted the run rate before Harper and Thomson led the Victorians to victory.

“Harper and Thomson provided a good partnership with positive batting and good running between wickets,” Rummans said.

“The boys played well in very tough and hot conditions.”

Victoria will face Tasmania today with play commencing at 9:30am AEST.
