Making waves at VicSpirit Championships
With three wins under their belt, the Waves currently sit second on the table behind Gippsland Pride on net run rate after securing a nine-wicket win over North Metro.
A 44-run opening stand between Yollane Carvalho (20) and Adelaide Campion (22) provided the Falcons with a solid platform before things went pear-shaped as they were shot out for 90.
Rhiann O’Donnell claimed 2-16, while Lauren McLean chimed in with 2-11.
In reply, Makinley Blows top-scored with 40 as Lauren McLean (22), Grace Link (23) and Claire Nolte (20) led the Waves to 153.
Eloise Gardner was the shining light with the balls for the Falcons as she claimed 4-27.
The Pride kept their unbeaten start intact with a 10-wicket victory against South Metro after routing their opponents for just 17.
Nicole Halford led the attack with 4-7, while Sophie Molineux (2-1), Ella Cargill (2-5) and Teagan Fairbrother (1-3) all claimed wickets.
The Pride then posted 9-156 in reply as Molineux (34), Chelsea Moscript (22), Halford (30) and Georgia Fisher (14) capitalised against the new ball.
Arielle Cathcart took 3-28, while Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit rookie Alana King finished with 2-17.
In Ringwood, East Metro secured a place in the top-four with a 10-wicket victory against North East Knights.
The Knights were dismissed for 59 as eight bowlers claimed wickets including Elizabeth Mitchell, who took 2-26.
East Metro openers Rebecca Carter (32*) and Kyra Black (28*) needed just 14 overs to overhaul the target as they put on an unbeaten 72-run stand.
Weather intervened in the remaining matches with Northern Rivers drawing with South West and South East Sharks doing likewise with Central Highlands.
The Rivers posted 8-136 from their 40 overs thanks to Tayla Vlaeminck and Hope Irvine (26) before play was abandoned.
The Sharks’ clash with the Highlands was evenly poised after they tallied 135 courtesy of Grace Mills (26) and Primrose Wohlers (31).
Kate Kile continued her impressive tournament with 4-20, while Brittany Dummett (2-24) and Tiffany Boatman (2-12) provided great support.
The final round of one-day matches will be played today ahead of the Final at the MCG in March.
