Mills and Wright dominate opening day of VicSpirit U18 Championships

The day belonged to two girls who dominated their respective games with the bat, Grace Mills and Madeleine Wright.

Mills scored 103 off just 93 balls, which included 13 boundaries, to guide her South East Sharks to victory.

East Metro’s Wright came agonizing close to also scoring a century; scoring 98 not out before the allotted overs ran out in her side’s victory over North Metro.

The pick of the bowlers from day one was East Metro’s Madeleine Clayton who finished with figures of 4-10 off five overs.

Clayton also chipped in with 25 not out to cap off a great all round performance.

South East Sharks opening bowler Primrose Wohlers also bowled well in her side’s win, coming away with figures of 3-12 off seven overs that included three maidens.

Round two of the State Championships kicks off tomorrow with five matches scheduled for play while the South East Sharks will have the bye.

Gippsland Pride, Central Highlands, North East Knights, Mallee Murray, Western Waves, Northern Rivers and South West will all feature in their first games of the tournament after having a bye in round one.
