More than Pride on the line
With a win in yesterday’s penultimate preliminary round securing top spot, Molineux blasted a quick-fire 52* to easily account for the South East Sharks’ total of 8-65.
The Pride’s semi-final opponent, Central Highlands, won both of its day two clashes to scrape into a semi- final against the undefeated Pride outfit.
Highlands captain Kate Kile led by example, scoring 76 runs and taking two wickets to guide her side through the round-robin fixtures.
In other Pool B matches, South East Sharks batter Grace Mills registered her second half-century of the carnival during in her side’s victory over Barwon Rockettes.
In Pool A, Mallee Murray Heat has won through to today’s semi-final, despite dropping an encounter to Western Eagles yesterday.
Fresh off a huge win in the morning round, the Heat struggled to get going against an Eagles side determined to win a finals berth.
Despite chasing the Heat’s 8-96, the Eagles missed out on a place in the semi-finals due to an inferior net run rate, which relegated them to a grading match against North East Knights this morning.
There were no such hiccups for Western Waves, which secured top spot after defeating both North East Knights and North Metro on day two.
In the Under-14 VicSpirit Championships, Victorian representative Madeline Wright proved herself as the dominant player of the carnival with 78 runs on day two.
Wright, who currently leads the competition with 160 runs, could not lift her Outer East Eagles into the semi-finals, despite a brilliant 42* in a losing side against North East Knights.
Today’s semi-finals will see the four dominant teams of the competition face off for a place in this afternoon’s final at Fairbairn Park.
Western Waves easily accounted for North West Wizards in a quarter-final, while South East Sharks and South East Bayside each won through with narrow victories.
