North East Knights claim Under-16 title

Batting first North East Knights set a score of 6-103, and in reply, South East Sharks were bowled out for 54 in the 24th over to hand North East Knights a 49-run victory.

With the bat, the North East Knights girls were unable to convert their starts with six players reaching double figures but not getting past 20.

Mary Sandral and Tahlia Simpson top scored for North East Knights with 18 each.

Grace Perkins was the pick of the bowlers on the day for South East Sharks picking up figures of five overs 3-23.

Sandral backed her batting performance with a handy five over spell that saw her finish with 2-6.

Madison Howard also chipped in with two wickets, and only bowled seven deliveries in the game.

In what was a high quality tournament, Mary Sandral had a spectacular week finishing as the leading run scorer for the tournament with 168 runs at an average of 56.

Closely behind Sandral was Maddison Baird from North East Knights, who finished her tournament on 161 runs at a staggering average of 161.

Just to add to that impressive week with the bat, Baird also took the most wickets in the tournament with 16 at an average of 2.13, with a best bowling of 8-3.

The next best with the ball throughout the week was Gippsland Pride’s Holly Whitford who took 9 wickets at an average of 3, with a best bowling of 4-4.

Well done to all the girls involved in the Under-16 Female State Championships, and congratulations go to the winners North East Knights.
