Scorpions claim title

Having won the toss and elected to bat, the South East Bayside Breakers got off to a shaky start, losing 3-22 in the opening overs.

Nathan Murphy (21) and Matthew Harris (21) tried to lift the team’s run rate however, a five-wicket haul from Adam MacGregor (5-16 from 6.4 overs) saw the Scorpions restrict the Breakers to a score of 85.

“Adam bowled an amazing length and swung the ball both ways,” Inner South East Scorpions coach Steve Viccars said.

“He really capped off a great carnival.”

In reply, the Breakers started well, claiming the crucial wicket of Will Sutherland (1) and leaving the Scorpions at 3-24.

However, a 65-run partnership from Jack Peters (43*) and Kyle Viccars (23) saw the Scorpions surpass the total in the 28th over to claim a seven-wicket Championship win.

“The boys shook off a nervous start to control the run chase and bat maturely,” Viccars said.

“It all came together yesterday and it was great to get the win.”

Shubham Bhargave was the pick of the Breakers bowlers, claiming 2-12 from eight overs.

The Scorpions’ McGregor was awarded with the Player of the Final while the Inner East Emus’ James Boyce took the Player of the Series being the highest wicket taker of the tournament with 10 as well as piling on 122 runs at 30.50.
