Having won the toss and elected to bat, contributions from Josh Bartlett (50), Krishna Padmanabhan (45*) and Vernon Mittal (36*) saw the Scorpions reach a score of 8-243, with the Rivers’ Brayden McGregor taking 4-33.

In reply, the Rivers lost early wickets, however, a 96-run knock from Layton McCann and contributions from Jake Higgins (46) and Mitchell Blackman (36*) revived their innings with the game being decided in the final over.

Requiring three runs to win off the final ball, a single saw the Rivers fall just short of the target, completing their innings on 8-242.

In other results, the Outer East Eagles sent the Mallee Murray Bulls in- dismissing them for 162- with the Bulls’ captain Jake Tremelling (52) and Thomas Holmes (43) providing then runs.

Despite a three-wicket haul from Matt Smith (3-32), a half-century from Jack Blain (52) saw the Eagles reach 173 to claim the win.

In another close encounter, the South East Sharks set the North East Knights a total of 203, with Andre Proctor (44), Thomas La Brooy (37) and Kiefer Peries (34) impacting the scoreboard.

Although La Brooy (3-3) and Gordon Waterfall (3-21) were potent in the attack, the Knights’ Matthew Crawshaw (52) and Tearan Gleeson (44) steered the team to victory with a total of 9-220.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Northern Falcons were bowled out by the South East Bayside Breakers for 193, with captain Ejaaz Alavi top-scoring with 46.

In reply, a half-century from Oliver Gunning (56) could not secure a win for the Breakers with Tim Fidler (3-18) and Nish Perera (3-36) leading the Falcons’ attack.

In Geelong, a five-wicket haul from Blake Troy (5-41) saw the Barwon Rockets bowl out the Central Highlands for 172, with Pat McKenna (71) again shining with the bat.

An unbeaten 70 from Luke Ford and a 51-run knock from Curtly Balshaw saw the Rockets surpass the Highlands’ total, notching 4-214.

The Inner East Emus claimed their first win of the tournament- setting the North West Wizards a total of 201- with Hamish Burrill top-scoring on 44.

A three-wicket haul from Josh King (3-30) saw the Emus restrict the Wizards to 148 in the 41st over.

At Melbourne University, the Western Spirit dismissed the Gippsland Pride for 170.

An unbeaten half-century from Ashley Armstrong (59*) saw the Spirit reach 5-179, claiming a five-wicket win over the Pride.

The Southern Pioneers claimed their second win of the tournament, with Zach Allen (58) and Ben Swift (31) leading the team to a score of 188 against the Western Waves.

Depsite a 61-run knock from Ben Threlfall, the Waves fell short of the total and were all out for 177, with the Pioneers’ Josh Dowling claiming 3-19.

Round three will commence at 9am today with matches being reduced to 35 overs due to extreme heat.
