U14 Male State Champs: Bandara鈥檚 day out

Bandara played a strong supporting role for Jordi Withers (87) as the pair put on 71 runs for the third wicket as the Waves pushed for a big total.

He helped steer the score to 5-211 with a steady 48* while Lachlan Field chipped in with 29.

The Rockets openers began well before Bandara was in the action again, coming in to the attack with immediate impact.

He tormented Barwon’s top and middle order, taking consistent wickets to finish with 5-27 off eight overs.

The flow of wickets meant that the Rockets simply couldn’t pick up the run rate, finishing their 40 overs with 9-123 – 88 runs short.

The Inner South East Scorpions held off the Inner East Emus in a match reduced to 30 overs a side due to a wet wicket.

After winning the toss and batting first, Auzburt Tellis was the only Scorpion to hang around long enough to see his side to a decent score.

He put together a classy 54 but the Scorpions were dismissed for 127 after 29 overs.

Jake Fraser McGurk was the pick of the bowlers with 3-15.

The Scorpions’ score instantly looked better after the Emus commenced their chase by losing 4-13.

The damage was too difficult to repair for the Emus and they ran out of time, reaching the end of their allotted 30 overs 23 runs short of the target (9-104).

Keeper Kane Pirera top scored with 30.

The Northern Rivers won in a tight contest with the Southern Pioneers.

The Rivers built a very competitive score as they went at four runs per over to finish with 5-166 from their 40 overs.

Small but effective partnerships were the story of the innings, as Todd Murphy (44) and Zane Keighran (38) led the way.

In response, the Pioneers always looked within striking distance, especially when Nivin Sathyajith got going.

He smashed a brilliant unbeaten 70 off 63 balls, but unfortunately ran out of partners as his side fell nine runs short in the last over of the match (all out for 157).

The Outer East Eagles hung on in a close contest to pass the Central Highlands’ score with just two wickets in hand.

Dismissed for 139 after batting first, the Highlands could have easily scored a lot more if they didn’t lost their last four wickets for just three runs.

A number of players got starts, while Nicholas McDonald (3-18) was the pick of the bowlers.

Cruising at 5-121 despite the loss of top scorers Ryan Peter-Budge (37) and Joel Nathan (34), the Eagles suddenly lost two quick wickets, putting the Highlands right back in the match.

The Eagles’ tail resisted the Highland challenge, however, successfully picking up the all-important final runs.

In the remaining games, the Western Spirit 2-140 (Kalnins 60*) defeated the North East Knights 7-115 (Jordon 68), the North West Wizards 7-194 (Novacek 60, Price 43*) defeated the Mallee Murray Bulls 9-85 (Keogh 45, D’Cruz 3-4), the Northern Falcons 7-120 (Hall 31*, Serong 4-17) defeated the Gippsland Pride, and the South East Bayside Breakers 7-190 (Harvey 100) defeated the South East Sharks 7-148 (Elcock 43).
