U14 Male State Champs: Shark Rowe bats beyond his years

After making just 8-59 from their 40 overs (C Griffiths 11*, M Horell 3-1, J Cox 2-4), the Bulls had a lot of work ahead of them in the field if they were to have any chance in the match.

Rowe instantly shut out hope for the Bulls, steering the Sharks to victory with the loss of only two wickets.

Once the points were decided, Rowe kicked on to score a brilliant 105 as the Sharks reached 5-215 from their 40 overs.

The South East Bayside Breakers also won after setting a target above 200, defeating the North West Wizards by 46 runs.

Mackenzie Harvey was superb on his way to 86, while he had great support from Jared Williams (35), Jakob Woinarksi (33*), and Michael Parsons (26*).

Fergus O’Neill picked up 3-12 off eight overs for the Wizards, as the Breakers went on to make 4-209.

O’Neill also played well with the bat, scoring 33, but his side simply couldn’t lift the run rate to what was required.

Angus Price (33*) and Joshua Bustard (29) also made starts, but the Wizards fell short with 7-163 from their 40 overs (Liam Witts 3-38).

The Western Spirit defeated the Outer East Eagles by 33 runs with the help of a quick-fire 69 from Alex Cesarios.

Batting first, the Spirit accumulated a competitive total of 5-176 from its 40 overs.

In response, the Eagles looked like they were a chance at 6-124, but the tail fell in quick time (4-11) and any hope was dashed.

Ethan Bentley (3-21) and Blake Aggelis (3-22) were the match winners with the ball for the Spirit as the Eagles were dismissed for 143 (Trent Wynne 41*).

Led by a sensational opening partnership by Oliver Willett and Liam Ross, the North East Knights chased down the Central Highlands’ 8-100 without the loss of a wicket.

Willett was eventually dismissed for 86 after the game was well and truly won, but this would be the only wicket throughout the entire run chase.

Ross finished the day on 55* as the Knights batted out their overs with a score of 1-174.

The Southern Pioneers easily accounted for the Gippsland Pride in their round one match.

The Pioneers’ opening pair of Nathan Munasinghe (59) and Ashley Chandrasinghe (39) put on 106 for the first wicket, laying the platform for strong total of 6-189 (40).

The Pride never got going in its chase, losing consistent wickets as the Pioneers had numerous options to turn to.

Triyan De Silva (3-7), Nivin Sathyajith (3-13) and Emran Heras (2-19) all took multiple wickets on their way to rolling Gippsland for just 74.

In the remaining games, the Northern Falcons (8-81, Ryan Gardner 32, Ethan Baxter 2-6, Jye Caldwell 2-6) lost to the Northern Rivers (3-172, James Vlaeminck 65, Zane Keighran 62*), the Western Waves (6-101, Jordi Withers 56, Daniel Condon 3-10) lost to the Inner South East Scorpions (3-123, Max Stevenson 44, Kyle Viccars 42*), and the Barwon Rockets (76) lost to the Inner East Emus (2-181).
