U16 State Champs: Emu Boucher stars on day one

Ably assisted by Andrew Young (57) and Lionel Hunt (49), Boucher’s 102 not out led the Emus to a highly impressive total of 5-287 from their 50 overs.

In response, the Rockets never looked like threatening the target as they were dismissed for 153 off 40 overs.

Jarrod Walters top scored with 37, while Charles Simondson (2-24) was the pick of the bowlers for the Emus.

In other results, the Inner South East Scorpions defeated the Western Waves after successfully chasing down a reasonably simple target of 126.

William Sutherland (4-20) did most of the damage for the Scorpions with the ball, before Thomas Sudano (42) top scored in the run chase.

Lachie Wareham (3-21) did his best to keep the Waves in the game, but the team simply didn’t have the runs on the board.

The Northern Falcons capped off an amazing mid-innings resurgence with the ball to forge an impressive win over the Northern Rivers.

The Falcons batted first and set a modest total of 162 (Akashdeep Cheema 52, Jack Bouwmeester 3-31).

The Rivers’ run chase began perfectly, as openers James Ryan (52) and Bailey Bell (28) batted without issue until the score reached 88.

This was when it all turned around.

The Falcons suddenly ripped through the batting order, taking a remarkable 10-39 and rolling the Rivers for 127.

Michael Edwards was the best of the bowlers taking 3-11.

The Southern Pioneers took the points in a low-scoring affair with the Gippsland Pride.

Sacheen Paramesh dominated the Pride’s top order on his way to team-best figures of 3-14 (6).

The Pride simply couldn’t establish partnerships and was bowled out for just 89.

The Pioneers chased down the target with ease, passing the Pride’s score with just three wickets down (Joshua Battle 47).

The Pride will take momentum into its next game however, after quickly dismissing the Pioneers for 140 once the game was decided (Harry Wans 4-18).

The Central Highlands had a first-up win over the North East Knights off the back of an impressive 65 from number three batsman Thomas Rogers.

After being set just 131 to win by the Knights (Will Donaghey 49, Jack Lalor 3-17), Rogers and Mitchell Bench (25) put on 91 runs for the second wicket, setting up the Highlands victory with only three wickets down.

Like the above-mentioned Pioneers, however, the Highlands too collapsed after bringing up the win, losing their last four wickets for just four runs (all out 160, Liam Hocking 4-10).

In the remaining matches, the Western Spirit (9-197, Mehtaab Singh 70, Jordan Kight 55) defeated the Outer East Eagles (154, Joel Robertson 48, Bradley Sawyer 2-14), the South East Bayside Breakers (7-308, Edward Newman 140, Shubham Bhargrave 100) thrashed the North West Wizards (137), and the South East Sharks (9-200, Matthew Foy 59, Jarrod Brander 3-37) got up over the Mallee Murray Bulls (159, Jay Turlan 37*, Luke McMaster 2-16).
