Under-17 Victorian squad named
Wes Agar, younger brother of Australian Test spinner Ash, headlines a team that also features Liam Banthorpe and Sam Harper, members of last season’s title-winning side.
Victorian coach Graeme Rummans has seen first-hand Agar’s ability.
“I faced him a couple of weeks ago for St Kilda and he is a talented pace bowler who could develop into a genuine all-rounder,” Rummans said.
“Liam (Banthorpe) has had an impressive season for Fitzroy-Doncaster keeping in their ones and making some handy runs.
“He will bat in the top order and was also our best fielder in last year’s carnival so will we give the gloves to Sam (Harper) again who had a great series last year.”
With four bottom-age players in the squad, Sam Grimwade, Josh Hudson, Will Pucovski and Blake Thomson, Rummans said the future looked bright.
“We have another strong squad this season and it was very difficult making the final selections,” Rummans said.
“It’s very exciting for Cricket Victoria and hopefully we see these players go on through the pathway and play for the Bushrangers.”
