Under-19s face WA onslaught

Topping the table entering the encounter, the Sandgropers, who must outperform South Australia to claim the silverware, peeled off 7-323 from 90 overs before declaring late in the day.

Victoria will resume this morning at 0-3 after weathering four probing overs last night.

A century to Steve Eskinazi laid the platform for Western Australia to post its mammoth total, with Jaron Morgan chiming in with 87 from 75 balls including six sixes.

Eskinazi eventually fell for 117 to leg-spinner Pat Ashton, who finished with 3-58.

Ben Ashkenazi (1-62) struck early to continue his strong carnival, while new-ball partner Tom Russ finished with 1-29.

Matt Fotia (1-42) and Sam Kerber (1-45) also provided breakthroughs.

Victoria will resume with Mark Phelan and Lincoln Edwards in the middle, hoping to finish the tournament with a 3-2 ledger.
