Under-19s: Victoria falls behind in game three

After being sent into bat, Victorian openers Zach Allen (26) and Jacob Serry (13) were making steady progress until Allen’s eventual dismissal (with the score on 34) triggered disaster.

Victoria lost an amazing 5-9 as Queensland’s bowling attack built pressure and ripped through the top order with ease.

Having struggled to 7-53, captain Ejaaz Alavi (10 off 43) and Shea Gribben (8 off 59) dug in to at least occupy the crease for a while, but Victoria was eventually dismissed for 88.

With plenty of time to turn the momentum of the match around, Victoria needed early breakthroughs with the ball.

Wickets didn’t come as easy however, with Queensland passing Victoria’s first innings score with the loss of just three wickets.

As Queensland threatened to pull away to a massive lead, Melbourne Renegade Matt Short (3-30) struck with two vital wickets towards the end of the day, putting the Vics in a position to run through the lower order early on day two.

Queensland will carry a lead of 82 into day two when it resumes its innings on 5-170.
