Victoria claim second win

An unbeaten 67 from Jonathan Merlo saw the Victorians pile on a total of 8-176 before Blake Parsons (4-6) tore through the Northern Territory batting lineup to restrict them to 9-104.

After losing the toss and being sent into bat, Victoria got off to a shaky start, losing 4-35 in the opening overs.

A middle to late order charge from Merlo, Thomas Ewing (27) and Bailey Eustance (25) saw the Victorians set a target of 8-176.

In reply, the Victorian attack, led Parsons proved too potent for the Northern Territory top-order, dismissing them for 5-27.

Despite a 49-run partnership from Declan Curran (32*) and Harry Martin (16*), the Northern Territory were restricted to 9-104 with Victoria claiming victory.

“The boys have maintained our team first focus all week,” Victorian assistant coach Shane Koop said.

“It’s been pleasing for the boys to learn how to win games of cricket in different situations and they have adapted well to the slow wickets in Canberra.”
