Victoria gets first win
Having been set a target of 183, a half-century from Austin Heldt (51) saw Victoria surpass the total and continue to bat out its 50 overs to finish on 6-192.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Western Australia was in early trouble, losing opening batsman Brayden Moore in the opening overs to be 0-3.
A 45-run knock from Matthew Spoors saw Western Australia steady the ship and lift the run rate.
Supported by Seamus Bolton (3-36), a four-wicket haul from paceman Jonathan Merlo (4-37) saw the Victorian attack bowl out Western Australia.
In reply, Victoria set the pace early with opening batsman Heldt and Bradley Melville (29) combining for a 78-run partnership.
An unbeaten 37 from Thomas Ewing continued the momentum with Victoria reaching the total to claim its first tournament victory.
“They boys were really excited,” Victorian assistant coach Shane Koop said.
“We are learning how to play the game with real intent and we are focusing on singles and on a real competitive team first attitude.”
Victoria will next face the Northern Territory in a positional final tomorrow.
