Victoria suffers first loss

Having started the day at 5-46, a fight back from the Victorians saw them all out for 215, falling 42-runs short of the NSW target.

“We were in a bit of trouble at 5-46 but we spoke to the boys about chipping away at the total and taking the game as long into the day as we could,” Victorian assistant coach Jarrad Loughman said.

As play resumed Blake Thomson and Adam McMaster returned to the crease with a daunting run chase ahead.

The pair turned the strike well, combining for a 97-run partnership, with Thomson piling on 59 and McMaster 49.

“The boys complimented each other well,” Loughman said.

“Thomson did really well again and this was his first dismissal in the tournament.

“Adam also played his natural game and played some really good shots.”

With Thomson and McMaster being dismissed, the Victorians saw the tail wag, with Gehan Seneviratne (24) and Jackson Mockett (23) providing handy contributions.

However, an even bowling display from Luke Bartier (3-19), Harmon Sandhu (3-32) and Bayley McGill (3-42) saw NSW restrict Victoria to 215.

“The boys put in a good fight and we thought that it was a great effort to get within 42 runs,” Loughman said.

“NSW are a good team and bowled really well, particularly on the first day.”

In its final match of the tournament, Victoria will face Western Australia in a two-day game commencing tomorrow.
