When it rains it pours for under-19s

Steady rain until 2pm allowed just 56 overs to be bowled, with Victoria scrapping its way to 5-137 at the close of play.

The day could have have looked better for Victoria, with Scott Dixon stumped in the final over of play leaving Jack Harper unbeaten on 31.

Earlier, Victoria’s top-order did a good job negating the bowler friendly conditions, moving at one stage to 2-90 before captain Meyrick Buchanan was dismissed.

Round two heroes Harper and Tom Russ, who put on 135 to beat Northern Territory, will now hold the key for Victoria as they push for a result on an elongated day two.

Team manager Jarred Loughman felt that while yesterday was an improvement with the bat; the team must work hard in order to post a total on day two.

“There was plenty there for the bowlers yesterday, however, we put a far greater price on our wicket from what we have seen,” Loughman said.

“Losing Dixon overnight was tough. It would have been nice to go into today with two set batsmen.”

Despite being five down, yesterday’s goals still remain relevant for Victoria, according to Loughman.

“We definitely showed more application yesterday, and if we take that into today we will give ourselves every chance,” he said.

Play resumes at 10.30am AEDST and can be followed @CVPathway on Twitter and/or via the CV Pathway Facebook page.
