Back to Home for Premier cricketers

Earlier this season, Victorian Premier Cricket introduced its popular ‘Back to Home’ initiative which encourages its players to return to their clubs of origin to join and help run training sessions.

Following November’s successful launch, the second session will be held on Tuesday, February 5.

During the Back to Home initiative, Premier Cricket clubs are asked to send their entire playing lists back to their clubs of origin or to arrange an evening with community clubs within their local area.

While locality is an issue for some players, particularly for those who hail from parts of regional Victoria, the expectation is for those players to accompany fellow teammates to a local club.

Commonwealth Bank Bushranger spinner Jon Holland is among those who will return home, with the 25-year-old to oversee a session at Dingley.

“It’s a great initiative,” Holland said.

“At one time or another, most Premier cricketers would have come through a local club and it’s great to be able to return and pass on some of the knowledge and tips that we have learnt playing in a higher level.

“As Premier cricketers, we owe a lot to these clubs, so it’s great to be able to provide a little bit of support along the way.”

The cricket community is encouraged to support the night by using the hashtag #backtohome via its social media platforms.
