Carlton and Melbourne triumph this Kookaburra Victorian Premier Cricket season

Carlton won the Men’s Premier 1st XI Grand Final by seven wickets over Casey South Melbourne at Windy Hill on the weekend.

The Blues created history by becoming just the fourth side to conjure a reverse outright win after trailing the Swans by 41 runs at the end of the first innings.

Carlton was set a final session run chase of 251 off just 36 overs, winning the match with 5.2 overs to spare.

Casey South Melbourne opener and Victorian Squad Member, Ash Chandrasinghe, was awarded the John Scholes Medal for Player of the Final for his double of 53 and 103*, becoming just the fourth batsman in a Grand Final to carry his bat through the innings.

In the women’s competition, Melbourne won the Women’s Premier 1st XI One Day Final in a dominant display over Prahran by 163 runs at Shepley Oval.

The Demons made 4/259 off their 50 overs and then dismissed the True Blues for 96 inside 26 overs.

Melbourne’s Ella Hayward was awarded the Betty Wilson Medal for Player of the Final for her double of 57 runs & 5/26 off 10 overs.

Melbourne made it four titles for the season by winning the Under 18 Women’s Final over Carlton by eight wickets on Labour Day at Princes Park #1.

The Blues batted first at home and made 9/171 off their 50 overs, before the Demons chased the target down in 37.1 overs.

Melbourne’s Sahana Tarini was awarded the Player of the Final for the double of 34 with the bat and 2/19 off 10 overs with the ball.
