Cardross to unveil new complex

More than two years after the February 2011 floodwaters devastated Cardross, the town has seen a $1.9 million sporting hub unveiled.

“The facilities we are going to have is unbelievable,” Cardross Cricket Club President Darren Bock said.

“We cannot wait until October, when we can start to use them.”

With 1.5 metres of floodwater infiltrating the club, honour boards, cricket gear, a roller and 2009-10 premiership caps were among the valuables lost.

Significant damages of over $25,000 to the club also saw the Cardross relocate to Redcliffe Football Club.

Having to find a way to generate revenue, Bock was quick to note that without the help of the community, the club would’ve been forced to fold.

“The whole cricket club and the community really joined together,” Mr Bock said.

The Cardross Community Complex will be available to the entire community and includes a new playground, oval, netball courts, change rooms, clubrooms and an industrial kitchen.

“We can now invite partners, kids and families over to club,” Mr Bock said.

“This will hopefully set up the club for another hundred years.”
