Molineux claims a hat-trick
During a stunning performance, Molineux ripped through the North East Knights’ top-order as she snared 4-11 including a hat-trick to rout her opponents for just 60.
Ella Cargill was just as impressive claiming 5-18 before Molineux backed up her performance with the ball by hammering an unbeaten 79, while Chelsea Monscript retired on 30 to secure a 10-wicket win.
Having claimed last year’s title, the Pride signalled their intentions in the afternoon Twenty20 with a 37-run victory over East Metro.
Monscript (23) and Molineux (44*) put on 81 for the opening stand as the Pride made 3-115.
In reply, East Metro, which claimed a first-up 42-run victory against Northern Rivers, reached 7-78 with Madeleine Clayton top-scoring with 15.
Mackinley Blows helped the Western Waves to an unbeaten start after bludgeoning consecutive half-centuries against South West and Northern Rivers.
In the morning session, Blows hammered an unbeaten 62 to lead her team to a seven-wicket victory against South West, with Grace Linke providing solid support with 26.
The state representative then crunched 50 against the Rivers as the Waves pocketed a 10-wicket win.
Lauren McLean (20*), Kelsey Perry (16*) and Rhiann O’Donnell (21) were all impressive in the run chase as the Waves overhauled the Rivers’ 4-58.
In other results, the South East Sharks split their ledger with North Metro and South West.
Having suffered a three-run loss to North Metro in the opening round after Yolanne Carvalho (26) and Dayna Giannopoulos (22) provided the impetus for victory with a 37-run partnership, the Sharks bounced back to inflict a six-wicket win over South West in the final over.
South East Metro and North Metro also provided a thrilling match, with Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit rookie Alana King posting an unbeaten 51 to lead her team to a one-run win.
North Metro compiled 5-102 thanks to a fine hand (45) from Sophie Reid, while Carvalho (20) was again impressive at the top of the order.
King then anchored the run chase as she led her team to glory.
Central Highlands remains unbeaten after claiming a five-wicket victory against South East Metro before defeating North East Knights by 55 runs.
The Highlands’ Jenna Bruton (3-7) and Jordyn Pearson (2-5) limited South East Metro to 9-53 before Emma Lynch (20) spearheaded the run chase.
Tiffany Boatman (4-12) was the star with the ball in the afternoon game as she helped dismiss the Knights for 62 in reply to the Highlands’ 8-117.
The Under-18 VicSpirit Championships continue today from 10am with teams transitioning to one-day games.
