A golden reward

Croydon Raiders’ Justin Perkins was rewarded for his standout season on Friday night when he received the 2013 Ross Gregory Medal.

Awarded to the best indoor cricketer in Victoria, Perkins enjoyed an outstanding season with both bat and ball.

“I really wasn’t expecting it all,” Perkins said.

“I was invited to the presentation night by our captain and just didn’t think anything of it.”

The all-rounder completed the count on 86 votes, 10 ahead of Northcote’s Alex Jesensek.

Having played indoor cricket for 15 years, Perkins’ experience proved vital in Croydon’s successful season.

The Raiders completed the season as runners-up in the Vicleague Grand Final, falling short of victory to the Melton Falcons.

The 23-year-old is no stranger to competing in the big events, having previously participated in the Australian Open Championships, the Junior Championships and the Indoor Cricket World Cup.

An outdoor cricketer for Kilsyth Cricket Club, Perkins aspires to greater heights with Victoria preparing to host the Australian Indoor Cricket Championships in July 2014.
