Cricket and AFL combine

In partnership with the AFL and the City of Melton, Cricket Victoria held a cricket and AFL clinic for females between the ages of five and 15 in the Melton and surrounding regions.

More than 60 girls gathered at Blackwood Drive Recreation Reserve to engage in cricket and AFL drills, including bowling, fielding and batting drills.

Commonwealth Bank VicSpirit captain Emma Inglis was in attendance on the day, noting that the partnership with the AFL created an opportunity for young females to learn skills from two of Australia’s leading sports.

“The day gave us a chance to give young girls a taste of cricket and AFL and therefore show them how fun both games can be,” Inglis said.

“Most of the girls in my group were between five and 10 years old.

“We did a lot of fun skill based activities, with a little bit of bowling, competitions of hitting the stumps and running around.

“I think it was quite successful and I think all the girls enjoyed the day.”

Also in attendance were Australian Indoor representative Nicole Martin and Port Melbourne VFL Assistant Coach and Victoria State Women’s Coach Peta Searle.
