Dyer receives scholarship

Established by School Sport Victoria and Schools Connect Australia, the scholarship aims to support Victorian students from low socio-economic, indigenous, rural and regional backgrounds who have been selected to represent Victoria in their chosen sport.

“We are really conscious of supporting our highly talented students from rural and remote areas, as we know that there can be barriers for them when getting involved in sport,” SSV Strategic Manager Nick Mooney.

Selected as a member in the Victorian girls’ 12-and-under team, Dyer received the Cricket Victoria supported scholarship to assist in the travel expenses for the national tournament.

Living in the remote town of Ballyrogan, the scholarship will help the Dyer family with the cost of travel, accommodation and uniform.

“This means a lot to the family,” Buangor Primary School Principal Paul Buncle said.

“They are extremely hard working and it can be a bit of a burden for them to travel so much.”

As a member of the Buangor Cricket Club, Dyer is a handy cricketer who has a real passion for the game.

“She’s just a great athlete and an excellent bowler,” Buncle said.

The 12-and-under tournament will take place on January 3 to 11, 2014 in Bendigo.
