Grassroots receive $140,000 in funding
Cricket Victoria’s new Strategic Grants Fund made a pool of more than $140,000 available to all Clubs, Associations and Region Committees, with the requirement that their application promoted cricket initiatives in line with Cricket Victoria’s 2012-15 Strategy for Victorian Cricket.
A range of applications were reviewed by Cricket Victoria’s Grants Committee, who selected the projects that best reflected the program guidelines.
The funds received will assist clubs in a range of projects, including Club, Association and Region development, umpire development programs, junior coaching, an upgrade in facilities and equipment.
Successful applicant, Mentone Cricket Club received funds to support the development of a junior program that will see greater coaching support and an upgrade in equipment and facilities.
The club will place an emphasis on assisting juniors in both the on-field and off-field aspects of cricket.
“A big focus for us going forward is to keep focusing on the juniors,” Mentone Cricket Club Secretary Lachlan Quinn said.
“We want to get them (the juniors) to feel a part of the club and make sure that they are comfortable in a sporting club environment.”
Ten years ago the Mentone Cricket Club did not have a junior team, now, with the assistance of the Strategic Grants Fund, the club can focus on continuing to strengthen its junior program.
“We really appreciate receiving funds from Cricket Victoria,” Quinn said.
Currently all applicants are receiving notification of their outcome.
