Abbatangelo becomes a Star

In a new initiative for the KFC T20 Big Bash League, the 20-year-old will train with the Stars and gain access to the club’s world-class coaches and support staff.

With support from Mitsubishi Motors, Chemist Warehouse and health.com.au, the Stars have bolstered the Cricket Australia community contract to create a 12-month Indigenous scholarship to continue Abbatangelo’s development post season.

The Northcote batsman has enjoyed a strong start to the Batercard Premier Cricket season, notching 180 runs in the Dragons’ First XI.

Proven to be a strong leader, Abbataneglo was last week named as captain of the Imparja Cup team for a third consecutive year.

From the Yorta Yorta country, the under-19 Victorian representative has enjoyed a list of accolades in his career, including being a member of the Black Caps squad – the team of the Imparja Cup tournament.

Having also been named twice in the under-23 Australian Indigenous Development Squad, Abbatangelo was given the opportunity to travel to India and Brisbane.

Earlier in the day, Abbatangelo joined his Imparja Cup teammates in a practice match against Victoria Police.

The team showed a lot of promising signs for February’s tournament, prevailing with a win.

The Imparja Cup takes place in Alice Springs from February 9 to 15, 2014.
