Vics crowned National Champs

Unbeaten entering last week’s final against Queensland, Victoria claimed the state’s first ever junior title in the modern era with a 106 (3 skins) to 52 (1 skin) victory.

“The boys performed really well,” under-13 coach Mark Krell said.

“They stuck to what they knew and the rest took care of itself.”

Ryan Peter-Budge was awarded with the player of the final, notching up 23 runs and claiming one wicket.

Captain Mackenzie Harvey was also pivotal throughout the under-13 tournament, piling on 197 runs and taking 23 wickets for the entire competition.

Harvey also finished second in the player of the tournament and was selected in the under-13 All Stars team alongside state teammates Peter-Budge and Sashin Garber.

In other divisions, the Victorian under-17 team was narrowly defeated by ACT in its semi-final, while the under-15 boys and both under-17 girls’ teams failed to make the finals.

Indoor cricket will now turn its focus to the 2013 Australian Open Championships, which commences on Saturday, July 20.
